Sea Eagle

The most telling statistic is the long drought. Sea Eagle's last victory came at Roscommon on 20 August 2024, nearly two years ago now. In the six races since, there have been no wins—just a solitary place and a lot of mid-field finishes. The recent form reads 2-12-–-11-6-2: a second place at the most recent outing just days ago offers the slimmest encouragement, but the pattern is one of slow decline.

Where Sea Eagle does show something is at middle distances, particularly between 7 furlongs and a mile. Over that trip, the horse has won one race from three attempts—a 33 percent win rate—which is three times better than its overall record of roughly 1 win in every 7 races. That narrow range is often where horses find their best version, and it remains Sea Eagle's strongest suit. The early career win at Chelmsford in October 2022 kicked things off, but the intervening seasons have been a study in moderate consistency: placed regularly enough to justify regular racing, but never quite finding the winning thread again.

At Class 4 level—the bread-and-butter tier—Sea Eagle has yet to land a win from three tries, which hints that stepping up has been a struggle. The horse belongs in the slightly lower grades, where those three wins have come, and appears to have settled into a role as a regular campaigner rather than a potential improver. For O'Leary's yard, Sea Eagle is simply a reliable presence: not flashy, not going anywhere special, but active and game enough to keep racing.
