The two victories came within three weeks of each other in June, first at Newbury and then at Newmarket, which suggested a horse hitting form at just the right moment. The most recent run, just a day ago, finished second, which is far from a disaster—but the form between that June peak and now (a mix of second, twelfth, eleventh, and first places) reads like a horse still inconsistent enough to keep punters guessing.
Tom Clover's Newmarket yard is sending out winners regularly this season, which counts in Sea Cookie's favour. The trainer clearly knows how to get horses competitive. Whether Sea Cookie becomes a regular on the winner's board or settles into the role of a place-getter at this level remains to be seen, but at three years old with winning form already tucked away, there is time for this one to improve and prove it belongs among the better horses.
