The most striking thing about Scoville is how the distances matter. Over the mile-and-a-furlong to mile-and-two-furlong range, the horse has won twice from four attempts — a 50% win rate that stands out sharply against its overall record. That kind of specificity tells you the trainer understands exactly what this horse needs to succeed, and has picked its races accordingly. Both wins came at quality venues too: the first at Windsor in May 2025, then a second at Newmarket just over a year ago in July. Newmarket is one of Britain's premier racecourses, so that second win suggests Scoville can perform when asked to.

The recent form is less polished. Scoville raced just yesterday and finished third, which at least shows the horse is still competing hard at the age of 4. Before that came a run in 13th place, two middling efforts in the placings, and a win 13 months back. That long gap between victories does hint that finding the right race at the right moment has become trickier, or that the horse is becoming harder to get into the winner's circle. Still, with William Haggas training — a Newmarket-based yard that has already sent out 170 winners this season — Scoville is in capable hands. The trainer clearly hasn't given up on the horse, and Scoville's recent return to action suggests there is still a plan. At this distance sweet spot, there is every reason to think another win is possible.
