Scarlet Moon

The career arc is a pleasant one. Scarlet Moon got off the mark at Southwell in April 2025 and kept on winning through the year, with the most recent victory coming at Warwick in November 2025. That win is now six months in the rear-view mirror, and the last six runs have produced a string of placed efforts — a third, two seconds, another second, a third, and a tenth — but no winner's enclosure. There is clearly ability still burning here; the placings prove that. It just hasn't quite fired to the front when it matters most lately.

The horse does most of its racing at Class 4, which sits in the middle of the British racing ladder — competitive enough to mean something, without quite reaching the top-tier occasions. At that level it has won 3 of its 12 races, which works out at exactly 1 in 4, perfectly consistent with its overall record. Regular partner Ben Poste has ridden it eight times and won once together, a 12% rate — roughly 1 win in every 8 rides — which is a touch below what the horse's overall numbers might suggest. Whether that partnership finds another win together remains to be seen.

Behind the scenes, Scarlet Moon is trained by Archie Watson at Upper Lambourn, one of the most productive yards in the country right now. With 65 winners already on the board this season, Watson's operation is clearly in fine form, and having an active, consistent four-year-old in the string is exactly the kind of asset a busy yard wants. Scarlet Moon raced just yesterday, which means it is very much in the middle of a campaign. Whether the next run finally ends that six-race drought is the question worth watching.
