Sayidah New Bay

She is trained by John S O'Donoghue at his yard in Curragh, Co Kildare, one of the heartlands of Irish racing. The team has sent out seven winners this season, so they clearly know how to get horses to the track in winning form — the challenge now is finding the right opportunity for Sayidah New Bay to do the same. She raced just one day ago, which means she is very much in the thick of her campaign right now, and the yard will be looking at her options carefully.

At this stage of her career, a horse with no wins from nine attempts needs to find something to click — whether that is a change of distance, a different type of race, or simply a day when the opposition is weak enough for her ability to shine through. She has shown enough with those placed efforts to suggest she belongs on a racecourse, but belonging and winning are two very different things. The next few races will be telling.
