Saxophonic

The most encouraging sign in the recent form is that third place, sandwiched between a run of eights, which at least confirms the horse can find another gear when things click. But doing it consistently is a different challenge altogether, and right now Saxophonic has yet to crack it.

The one genuinely positive thread here is the yard behind the horse. David Simcock trains out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — and has sent out 41 winners already this season, which speaks to a stable in good working order. Simcock is a patient, methodical trainer with a strong record of improving horses over time, so Saxophonic is at least in capable hands while still looking for that breakthrough. Having raced just yesterday, this is a horse very much in the thick of its campaign, and the team will be hoping the pieces fall into place sooner rather than later.
