Those two wins came within a fortnight of each other earlier in 2025 — first at Uttoxeter in late January, then at Newbury in early February — suggesting Rubber Ball hit a purple patch of form and ran with real momentum when things clicked. Newbury is worth noting specifically: it is one of the more prestigious tracks in Britain, and winning there is no small thing. Since then, six races without a win, with the most recent run just yesterday producing a second-place finish, which at least shows the horse is still competing rather than fading out of relevance.

The distance range of a mile and six furlongs up to two miles appears to be where Rubber Ball is most at home, winning 1 from 3 races at that trip — a ratio of 33%, comfortably its best record at any distance. That one-in-three return is genuinely strong and suggests the trainer and jockey should be pointing squarely at that range as often as possible. At Class 2 level — some of the better races in Britain — Rubber Ball has yet to score from four attempts, which tells you the horse has been tried at a decent level but hasn't quite managed to land the big one yet.

Jack Quinlan is the regular partner in the saddle, riding Rubber Ball in 13 of its 15 races. Together they account for both wins, giving them a 15% win rate — wins in roughly 2 of every 13 rides together. That kind of established partnership matters; a jockey who knows a horse well is always an advantage. Trainer Neil King, based in Wroughton in Wiltshire, has had a productive season with 16 winners sent out, so this is a yard in decent form. Whether Rubber Ball can add a third win to its tally — particularly if pitched back at that ideal distance on suitable ground — is the question worth watching.
