The most recent evidence came just this week, when Roysse won at Bangor-on-Dee on 16 May 2026 — its first victory since opening its account at Newbury back in January 2024. That win at Newbury was where it all started, but Bangor is the one that matters right now, arriving off the back of a run of form that had shown signs of life: a third, a third, and then a win. The trajectory was pointing the right way, and Roysse delivered.

Class 4 races — a solid, competitive mid-tier level — are where Roysse has found its best form, winning 2 of the 5 races it has run at that grade. That is a 40% win rate at its preferred class, which is genuinely impressive and suggests that when the conditions and the company suit, this horse knows how to win.

Ben Jones has ridden Roysse in 7 of its 13 races, winning once together, which works out at roughly 1 in every 7 rides — a modest partnership on paper, but one with clear familiarity built in. Behind them both is trainer Ben Pauling, whose yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 91 winners — a number that reflects a well-run, ambitious operation. Pauling gave an honest assessment of Roysse earlier in the season, noting that it was enthusiastic on its chase debut, jumped well if a little exuberantly, and was caught out by a bad peck at one fence — but crucially, his instinct was to get it back out quickly and keep the momentum going. This week's win suggests that instinct was exactly right.
