The one win on the board came at Cork on 19 March 2026, just two weeks ago, so Royal Gladiator is in form right now and very much an active runner. What makes the recent picture slightly puzzling is the current form line: the last four results read 10th, 1st, 4th, and 2nd in reverse order, meaning after that placed effort and the Cork win, the horse finished tenth most recently. Whether that latest run was a blip, a step up in class, or simply a day when things did not click is worth watching closely next time out.
The trainer is Ian Patrick Donoghue, operating out of Clonalvy in County Meath. With 24 winners sent out already this season, this is clearly a yard in good nick — horses leaving Donoghue's operation are doing their job, and that kind of momentum matters. A horse trained by someone in that sort of form tends to be well-prepared and arriving at the track in good shape.
Royal Gladiator is still young enough to improve and has already shown it can win. The Cork victory is the foundation, and with an in-form trainer behind it, the next few races will tell us a great deal about whether this horse can build on that and become a consistent performer.
