Rotokura Belle

Where Rotokura Belle truly excels is over the shorter trips. At sprint distances—races under five furlongs—she has won one of three attempts, a win rate of roughly one in three that stands out sharply from her overall record of wins in one of every six races. This is no accident. Her trainer Ivan Furtado, who runs a productive operation at Wiseton in South Yorkshire and has sent out 43 winners already this season, appears to have identified the distance as her sweet spot, and it is worth watching whether he continues to pitch her into sprint races. The puzzle, though, is class. She has yet to win in Class 5 company (0 from 7 races), her typical level, which suggests the step up in opposition has been a real barrier. Interestingly, her regular jockey Elle-May Croot has drawn a blank from five rides together, raising the question whether a different partner might unlock something. Still, at three years old and coming off a win only weeks ago, there is time and racing left for Rotokura Belle to put together a run that capitalizes on her sprint pedigree.
