Trainer Tony Carroll, based in Worcestershire, has sent out 136 winners already this season from his yard at Cropthorne, so the infrastructure and expertise are clearly there. Yet Rock Master remains among the unlucky ones. The horse competes almost entirely in Class 6 races, the lowest tier of competition, where you would expect a four-year-old with some racing miles to pick up at least one win. It has now run 15 times at that level without success. Recent form offers no encouragement either. Over its last six races, Rock Master has not finished better than fourth, with recent runs yielding a sixth, a tenth, and finishes outside the top five more often than not.
The horse raced just a day ago and remains active, so the yard have not given up on it. Whether Rock Master ever wins a race probably depends on an unusually generous handicap mark, a small field, or simply the kind of day when everything clicks—which, statistically, becomes less likely the longer a horse goes without tasting victory.
