There is a small thread of encouragement buried in those bare numbers. The finishing positions are actually moving in the right direction — sixth, then ninth, then tenth, read the other way round. That sounds like things getting worse, but in racing the most recent run comes first, so Revelio has gone from tenth to ninth to sixth. Marginal improvement, certainly, but improvement nonetheless. Whether that trend continues into a first win or a place finish is the question the team will be asking themselves this week.
What works in Revelio's favour is the yard behind it. Tom Clover trains out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — and has sent out 23 winners already this season, which marks this as a stable in decent form. Horses from an active, winning yard tend to be well-prepared and competently placed, so the fact that Revelio hasn't found its feet yet is unlikely to be down to any lack of effort on the training side. Sometimes it simply takes a horse time to click, and Clover's team will be watching carefully for the right opportunity to bring that first win home.
