Trained by Andrew Balding at Kingsclere in Hampshire, Respond is part of one of British racing's most productive yards right now. Balding's team has sent out 202 winners already this season — a number that tells you this isn't a lucky streak, it's a well-run operation firing on all cylinders. Respond fits the profile of a horse that repays that kind of professional attention: honest, competitive, and capable of winning.

The record on normal ground is where things get genuinely interesting. On a standard surface, Respond has won 2 of 4 races — a 50% win rate. That's not a stat, that's a preference. Some horses are built for specific conditions, and when this one gets the ground it likes, it tends to be dangerous. The first career win came at Haydock Park in August 2025, but the most recent — and arguably the most significant — arrived at Chester just this week, on 8 May 2026. Chester is one of the most unusual tracks in Britain, a tight, left-handed circuit where horses that handle the quirks thrive and those that don't can struggle badly. Winning there says something real about a horse's adaptability and racing intelligence.

The one area where Respond hasn't yet cracked the code is at Class 2 level — the near-top tier of British racing. In four attempts, the win column still reads zero. That's not a disaster; plenty of good horses find the very best company a step too far, and competing regularly at that level without winning still means finishing in the mix against high-quality rivals. With recent form reading 1-3-1-2-5-3, there are clearly big days in this horse — the question is whether a win at the top level is coming or whether Class 2 remains just out of reach.

Currently active and raced as recently as yesterday, Respond is very much a horse in the middle of its story. The form is good, the trainer is in fine fettle, and the ground preferences are well understood. There's plenty more to come.
