What is worth noting is the yard this horse comes from. Michael Bell trains out of Newmarket in Suffolk, one of the true heartlands of British racing, and his operation has sent out 45 winners already this season. That is a yard in form, and it matters — horses trained by people who know what they are doing tend to improve significantly from their first run to their second as the trainer figures out where they fit and what they need.
Resemblance finished 11th on debut, which sounds discouraging until you remember that two-year-old races are often large fields full of horses that have never competed before. The whole field is learning at once. The interesting question — and the one that only future races will answer — is whether that debut experience has taught this horse something. With a team this active behind them, it would be no surprise to see Resemblance turn up again very soon.
