The last six runs paint a picture of a horse that is genuinely trying. Finishing second, second, sixth, second, fourth, and fourth in that sequence, Reposado has hit the frame four times out of six most recently. The solitary sixth-place finish stands out as the blip rather than the norm. A horse that keeps running into second place is either unlucky, or is consistently finding one or two rivals just too sharp on the day — and the line between those two things can be very thin.
David Egan has been the regular partner, riding Reposado in six of those races without managing a winner, which means the pair have built up quite a bit of shared experience without the reward either of them is looking for. Egan is an experienced jockey, and the fact that he keeps coming back to ride the horse suggests genuine belief that the win is coming — these partnerships do not persist through six fruitless rides by accident.
Trainer Robson De Aguiar operates out of Mullingar in Westmeath, and has sent out 11 winners this season, which shows the yard is very much capable of getting horses to win. Reposado raced just yesterday, which means it is in the thick of a busy campaign right now. With four places already banked and a horse clearly running with consistency, the question is simply whether it can find a race where everything clicks at once. Given the form it has been showing, that day does not feel far away.
