Reporter

What is striking about Reporter is how much better it performs in Class 6 races — the lower tier where competition is thinner. In those races, it wins roughly 1 in every 7 outings (1 win from 7), a win rate of 14 percent that is nearly three times better than its overall record. That single career victory came in exactly this class of race, at a track it clearly suits. The problem is that the rest of Reporter's form offers little encouragement. In its last six runs, it has failed to break into the top four, a sequence of results that suggests either the horse is struggling for consistency or it has simply moved beyond the point where it can win races. Recent form like 11th, 6th, 7th, 13th, 6th, and 4th is the record of a horse treading water.

At 4 years old, Reporter is still young enough to surprise, but two years between wins is a troubling gap. Hodgson's yard has been competitive this season with eight winners to its name, but Reporter has not been one of them. The horse remains active and was out racing just yesterday, so there is still faith somewhere that it can find another victory. Whether that happens may depend on getting back to Class 6 racing and somewhere like Windsor, where it has already proved it belongs in the winner's circle.
