Read All About It

The worry is where that improvement is happening. At Class 5 — the lowest tier of British racing — Read All About It has raced three times without winning, which means it has yet to beat even the most modest fields it has been asked to face. For context, these are not prestigious contests; they are essentially the entry level. Going winless at that grade is not a crisis at this stage of a career, but it does mean the horse needs to convert soon if it is to show it belongs even at this level.

Tom Ward's yard has hit the ground running this season with 14 winners already sent out, so there is clearly ability in the team to get horses ready to win. The question is whether Read All About It can tap into that form. Having raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly a horse that is being kept busy and given every opportunity — and that second place finish in its most recent completed run at least gives the yard something to work with. The step from placing to winning is not always a large one, and a horse that has finished second once and third once clearly knows where the line is. Now it just needs to get there first.
