Rambuso Creek

The two wins are spread nearly 16 months apart. The first came at Thirsk in June 2022, the second at Leicester in October 2023 — and there has been nothing since. That second victory is now 31 months in the rear-view mirror, and the last 6 races have produced finishes of sixth, fourth, sixth, sixth, fifth, and fifth. In other words, Rambuso Creek is regularly competitive enough to avoid embarrassment, but not quite finding the gear to get to the front when it matters.

Most of Rambuso Creek's racing happens at Class 5 level, which is towards the lower end of the racing ladder — the kind of races where horses are competitive without being exceptional. Even there, the record reads 1 win from 14 races, or roughly 1 in every 14, which suggests this is a horse that makes life hard for itself even at the level it most often enters. Regular partner Tom Eaves has been in the saddle for 15 of those 40 races together, winning once — a similar picture to the overall record.

The trainer is Michael Herrington, based at Willoughton in Lincolnshire, and the yard has had a productive season with 33 winners sent out. That context matters — Herrington clearly knows how to get horses winning, which makes Rambuso Creek's 31-month drought something of a puzzle rather than a reflection of poor training. Rambuso Creek raced just yesterday and remains an active part of the string, which at least shows the horse is sound and willing. Whether another win is coming is a different question entirely.
