The headline number is six wins from 58 races — a win rate of around 10%, or roughly 1 in every 10 outings. That is not flashy, but it is consistent, and consistency over this many races is its own kind of achievement. Rain Cap races at Class 6 level, which is the entry level of British racing — the kind of races where every yard is trying to find a spot where their horse can finally get its head in front. Winning six times at that level from 53 races (11%, or about 1 in 9) means Rain Cap has been competitive throughout its career rather than simply making up the numbers.
What makes Rain Cap genuinely interesting is its relationship with Catterick Bridge. Four of its six career wins have come at that tight, undulating track in North Yorkshire — 4 from 24 races there, which works out to winning roughly 1 in every 6 attempts. For context, its win rate everywhere else is closer to 1 in 26. That is a dramatic difference, and it suggests Catterick suits this horse in ways that are hard to fully explain but impossible to ignore. It first won there on 29 September 2021, and the track has clearly never stopped agreeing with it. When Rain Cap turns up at Catterick, you pay attention.
The horse also has clear preferences beyond venue. On fast, dry ground it wins 2 from 12 (17%, or about 1 in 6), and over sprint distances of five to six-and-a-half furlongs it has won 5 of its 29 races at that trip — again, roughly 1 in 6. Put Rain Cap on a quick surface over a short distance at Catterick, and you are looking at a horse operating very close to its ideal conditions.
Sean Kirrane has ridden Rain Cap to five of those six wins from 26 races together — a win rate of 19%, or almost 1 in 5 — making that partnership one of the more productive combinations at this level. Trainer John David Riches, based up in Pilling in Lancashire, has sent out five winners already this season. Rain Cap last won at Pontefract in July 2025 and raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much still in the thick of things.
