Stuart Coltherd trains Rachel Lopez from his yard in Selkirk, Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders. It has been a quiet season for the operation — just one winner sent out so far — so Rachel Lopez will be hoping to give the team something to celebrate. Small yards like Coltherd's often punch above their weight when they find the right race for the right horse, and with only three races under her belt, there is still plenty to learn about where Rachel Lopez fits best.
Having raced just yesterday, she is very much in the thick of it right now. Whether that recent run leaves her fresh enough to go again soon or signals a short break, only the trainer will know — but she is clearly an active, working racehorse at the moment, not one being saved for a distant target. At seven, she is no youngster finding her feet, but plenty of horses take time to settle into a consistent rhythm, and three races is still a small sample from which to draw firm conclusions.
