The recent form makes for difficult reading too. Looking at the last six outings, the best result is a third place, and the others show finishes of eighth, eighth, eleventh, and seventh — consistently mid-pack or worse, with no obvious sign that a breakthrough is coming. Promethean raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of an active campaign.
At Class 4, which sits in the lower-middle tier of British racing, Promethean has had ten chances to win and taken none of them. That level is not the top of the sport by any means, and the fact that the horse cannot win there suggests it is genuinely finding life tough. To be fair to Sam England's yard, they are clearly doing something right this season — 49 winners sent out is a healthy total and shows the operation knows how to get horses across the line. Promethean, for now, remains the exception rather than the rule.
