Finishing third on debut is no disgrace — plenty of young horses need that first experience just to understand what racing is about, and a placing straight away suggests there is something worth following up. Charlie Clover's yard in Newmarket, one of British racing's most famous training centres, has sent out 24 winners already this season, which tells you this is a team that knows how to get horses ready to perform. When a yard is firing at that rate, you pay attention to the horses coming out of it.
There is simply not enough on the clock yet to say much more than that. One race, one placing, a promising base to build from — the next run will tell us a great deal more.
