That said, Premier Cru is in capable hands. Trainer James Fanshawe operates one of the sharper yards in Newmarket, and with 47 winners already on the board this season, the team clearly know how to get horses to perform. Newmarket is one of British racing's great training centres, and horses stabled there tend to be well-prepared and well-placed. The question is when — or whether — Fanshawe can find the right opportunity to unlock something from this horse.
At three years old, Premier Cru still has time. Some horses take longer than others to figure out what is being asked of them, and a yard with 47 winners this season is not going to give up easily. Having raced just yesterday, it is clearly still a live part of the operation. Whether a change of tactics, distance, or ground conditions can turn those mid-pack finishes into something more competitive remains to be seen — but for now, the results have given supporters little to work with.
