What gives this horse a fighting chance is that it raced just yesterday, meaning it is very much in active training and its story is still being written. Trainer Chelsea Banham, operating out of Cowlinge in Suffolk, has already sent out six winners this season, which tells you the yard knows how to get a horse ready to perform. If Power Cut is still in work and still being campaigned, Banham clearly believes there is something worth finding.

Three years old is still young. Some horses take time to work out what racing is actually about, and a consistent run of mid-field finishes can sometimes mean a horse is learning rather than failing. Whether Power Cut eventually clicks into gear or quietly fades from the track record books is the question — but with a trainer in form and another race presumably around the corner, there is still time for the story to take a different turn.
