What is worth watching, though, is where Possible is trained. Harry Derham's yard in Upper Lambourn has sent out 53 winners this season, which is a serious number — that kind of output doesn't come from a small operation running modest horses. Lambourn itself is one of Britain's great racing villages, home to dozens of stables and some of the sharpest minds in the sport. A horse sitting in that environment, even after a quiet debut, is at least in the right hands to find out what it can do.
One run tells you very little. Ninth place can mean a lot of things — inexperience, an unsuitable race, a bad day. The only fair verdict right now is that Possible is unproven, and the next run will be far more revealing.
