Port Louis

Trained by Bernard Llewellyn out of Fochriw in Mid Glamorgan, Port Louis is part of a yard that has quietly been doing solid work this season, sending out 10 winners. Llewellyn clearly knows how to place horses to give them a chance, and Port Louis has banked 7 places from those 32 races — meaning it has finished in the frame (typically the top three) in nearly a third of its outings. It may not win often, but it is rarely far away.

The partnership with jockey Colin Keane has been the most consistent thread through Port Louis's career — they have raced together 13 times, which is a significant chunk of the horse's entire career. Keane has ridden it to 1 win in those 13 races, a win rate of around 8%, or roughly 1 in 13. That single win together came at Cork in May 2025, which is also the most recent win on Port Louis's record. It has not won since, going six races without getting back to the top.

What makes the recent form a little harder to read is that two of the last six results are dashes — races where Port Louis either didn't finish, was withdrawn, or the result isn't recorded in the usual way. Of the four completed runs, the best was a second place, while the others were towards the back of the field. It raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse in active campaign.

The career started with a win at Roscommon back in May 2023, and Port Louis has added one more victory since. At this level, a horse that wins once every 16 races and places regularly is probably doing exactly what it's meant to do — keeping competitive, earning prize money, and occasionally delivering. The question now is whether it can end a six-race winless run and get back to where it was at Cork.
