The bulk of Porridge's racing has come at Class 5 level — the entry-level tier of British racing, where the fields are typically made up of horses without a great deal of wins between them. You might expect that to be the ideal hunting ground for a horse looking to get off the mark, yet even here Porridge has drawn a blank, going winless in all seven races at that level. That is not a disaster — some horses simply take time, and others find their niche in different circumstances — but it does suggest the first win, when it comes, may require things to fall just right.
What is worth noting is that Porridge raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in active training and still being campaigned with intent. Tracey Leeson is a small-yard trainer, and her operation has managed one winner so far this season — so when a winner does come through the door, it genuinely matters. Whether Porridge can be the horse to provide another one remains to be seen, but the fact the team keeps running the horse suggests they believe the opportunity is still out there somewhere.
