What stands out most is the timing of those victories. Polemon's first win came at Gowran Park in August 2024, and it followed up with another at The Curragh in October of that year. Since then — a stretch of 22 months — it has not won again, though it has picked up three places to keep itself competitive. The recent form is frustratingly patchy: a seventh place a day ago, then a third-place finish before that, with blanks scattered among runs that have yielded nothing. This is a horse that still has something to offer, but clearly not at the peak of its powers.

Tim Vaughan's yard at Aberthin has sent out nine winners this season, so the stable is firing, but Polemon's record in top-tier Class 5 races tells a harder story — zero wins from nine attempts. It races best a grade lower, where it has a real fighting chance. Daniel King, its most frequent rider, has steered the horse to one win from seven races together, a win rate of 14 percent, which again suggests there is a partnership worth maintaining. For a horse that turned seven last year and has spent most of its career outside the winners' circle, Polemon remains active and occasionally competitive, particularly when the ground suits and the company is right.
