Thurles is a tight, testing track in Tipperary, and winning there is never a formality. One win from four might sound modest, but compared to its overall record, it is significantly better — the horse simply finds its stride when there is enough ground to cover.

The interesting wrinkle is the partnership with Nathan Crosse, who has ridden Plunkett Street eight times without a win. That is not unusual — horses and jockeys go through barren runs together all the time — but it does create a small puzzle given that the horse has clearly been capable of winning during this period. Recent form reads 14-7-12-1-2-4 going back from the latest run, and that "1" — a win — alongside a second place suggests Plunkett Street is still competitive when conditions align. Raced just one day ago and currently active, this is a horse that is firmly in the mix and not yet done making its case.
