Pink Eyed Pedro

His most recent win came at Chepstow in April 2025, which at this point is around twelve months ago, and before that he broke his duck at Southwell back in June 2023. Two wins from 15 races is a quiet career by any measure, but for a horse still running at fifteen, simply being sound and willing is something worth appreciating. His recent form reads as a win, then a second, then a fifth — so there is life in him yet, with two solid efforts sandwiching a disappointing run.

The partnership with Connor Brace is one of those stubborn, loyal arrangements that racing throws up from time to time. Ten races together and yet to get their heads in front — which is a tough record to dress up — but the consistency of the combination suggests the team at David Brace's yard in Pyle, Bridgend, clearly believe there is a day coming. The yard has managed 2 winners this season in total, so resources are modest and each success matters. When Pink Eyed Pedro does get his nose in front, it means something.

The one curious puzzle is his record in Class 3 races — the better-quality contests he sometimes gets entered in. Five attempts, zero wins. He has never managed to win at that level, which suggests his two victories came in slightly easier company, and that when the bar is raised, he finds it just out of reach. That is not a knock on him — plenty of horses find their ceiling and just keep showing up within it. At fifteen, still racing, still placing, still giving his rider something to work with, Pink Eyed Pedro is simply doing what he has always done. Some horses are built for greatness. Others are built for longevity. This one landed firmly in the second camp, and there is nothing wrong with that at all.
