Pike Road

Trained by Martin Keighley at Luckley in Gloucestershire, Pike Road operates mainly at Class 4 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British jump racing. At that level he has won 2 of his 12 races — roughly 1 in every 6 — which is a perfectly respectable return, though his trainer clearly believes there are more wins in him than the tally currently shows. Keighley has described him as a lovely jumper and a tough, genuine horse who stays well over a distance. The problem has been bad luck rather than bad ability. At Ludlow, he had a race won before his leg slipped on unusually treacherous ground and he unseated his rider — ground so dangerous the very next race on the card was abandoned altogether. That is the kind of thing that stings when you're trying to build a record.

His most recent win came at Uttoxeter in November 2025, and his first came at Hexham in May of the same year — a satisfying bookend to a productive 2025 campaign. The jockey on both occasions was Mr Freddie Keighley, the trainer's son, who has ridden Pike Road in 8 of his 17 races and won 2 of them — a win rate of 25%, or roughly 1 in every 4 rides together. That's a meaningful number. When the familiar partnership is in place, this horse clearly goes to work.

Recent form reads 2-6-5-4-1 going back through his last five completed runs, with that second place suggesting he is knocking on the door again. He raced just yesterday, so there is every chance another chapter is being written right now. With a yard that has sent out 19 winners already this season and a trainer who clearly has faith in him, Pike Road looks like a horse whose best days may not be behind him just yet.
