Penn Avenue

The two wins are an interesting pair. The first came at Lingfield Park in July 2025, and the second at Musselburgh in September — two very different tracks, which suggests Penn Avenue can adapt rather than being a one-trick pony. That Musselburgh win was seven months ago now, and the horse hasn't won in its last six races since, though the recent form figures of 5–3–3–3–4 show it finishing in the frame more often than not. It's running into things rather than running away with them, which is either encouraging or a little frustrating depending on how you look at it.

Where Penn Avenue really comes alive is on normal, standard ground — two wins from just three races in those conditions is a 67% record, which is a remarkable ratio and far above anything it has managed in other circumstances. That stat alone explains why the team pays close attention to the forecast before committing to a run. At longer distances — a mile and six furlongs up to two miles — it has won one from four, a 25% record that holds up reasonably well at that trip. Most of its racing has come at Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, where it has won two of eight, again around one in every four, which is a perfectly respectable account of itself at that level.

Penn Avenue raced just one day ago, so it is very much an active, working racehorse right now. The question worth watching is whether the right conditions — standard ground, a suitable distance — can bring out another win, or whether the last seven months represent a plateau. With David Pipe placing horses shrewdly and the yard in good form this season, the ingredients are there for another day in the winner's enclosure.
