Payforanother Daay

The recent form figures — 5, 12, 6, 3, 3, 12 — paint an interesting picture. Those back-to-back third-place finishes suggest there was a brief purple patch where Payforanother Daay was running into form and threatening to break the duck. The two twelfth-place finishes either side of that sequence, however, show how inconsistent life has been. A horse that can finish third one week and last the next is one that keeps its trainer guessing. Simon Hodgson, who operates out of Dogmersfield in Hampshire, has sent out eight winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get a horse to the front — Payforanother Daay just hasn't been the one doing it yet.

The bulk of this horse's racing has come at Class 6 level, which is essentially the entry level of British racing — the races designed for horses that haven't shown enough to compete higher up the ladder. Going zero from seven at that level is admittedly hard to spin positively, but the fact that it raced just yesterday means Hodgson hasn't given up on finding the right opportunity. Sometimes it takes a specific set of conditions, a particular track, or simply a clearer run through a field for a horse like this to finally click. Whether Payforanother Daay finds that moment remains to be seen, but at six years old, the window is narrowing, and the pressure is quietly building for that elusive first win.
