At seven years old, he's not a youngster, and time isn't exactly on his side when it comes to finding that breakthrough. The run that ended in fourteenth is harder to explain without more context, but the fact that he bounced back to third most recently is at least an encouraging sign that the poor effort didn't knock the stuffing out of him. He raced just yesterday, so he's clearly an active horse right now and his team will be looking for the right opportunity to get him into the winner's enclosure.

That team is the yard of Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith, based at High Eldwick in West Yorkshire. With 42 winners sent out this season already, this is a stable that clearly knows how to get horses winning — which makes Patrick's Wells something of an outlier in their string. When a stable is firing at that rate, you'd back them to find the right race for him sooner or later.
