Our Uncle Jack

The ten-year-old has built a career record of 3 wins and 4 places from 16 races — wins coming at roughly 1 in every 5 outings — which tells you he's a consistent, honest performer rather than a superstar. He got off the mark at Tramore in October 2023, and his most recent win came at Fairyhouse in February 2026, just three months ago. That Fairyhouse success matters: it's one of the more respected venues in Irish racing, and winning there suggests he's operating at a decent level.

His recent form makes for interesting reading too. In his last six races he's won twice and finished third once, with a couple of unplaced efforts mixed in. That kind of profile — capable of winning but not doing it every time — is exactly what you'd expect from a horse who is very particular about his conditions. When the ground suits, he delivers. When it doesn't, he's more workmanlike.

He's trained by Martin Paul Fitzgerald at Killeagh in County Cork, a yard that has sent out four winners already this season. Interestingly, the most regular rider, Mr D M Fitzgerald, is yet to get a win from five attempts together — which is one of those quirky facts that racing throws up from time to time, and may simply reflect that those five rides came on days when the ground wasn't in Our Uncle Jack's favour. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much an active horse with more chapters still to be written.

At ten years old, horses can sometimes surprise you with late-career form, and with the Irish winter capable of delivering plenty of wet weather, Our Uncle Jack is the kind of horse that's always worth a second look when the forecast turns grim.
