The win came at Wolverhampton on 17 February this year, but here's the puzzle: Oscar Nominee hasn't visited the winner's circle in the six months since. That's a long drought for a young horse still learning its trade. Last raced just a day ago and clearly active in the yard, there's time to turn that around, but the lack of a second win so far means the horse is still proving itself at this stage. Trained by J P Murtagh at Coolaghknock Glebe in County Kildare, Oscar Nominee runs for a yard that's sent out 53 winners this season, so there's solid horsemanship behind the horse. Whether that next win comes soon will tell us whether this is a horse with genuine potential or one destined to be the sort that occasionally troubles the scoreboard but rarely dominates.
