One Night Standard

Those two victories came at Wexford in May 2024 and then Listowel the following September — and that Listowel win is the one to focus on. Listowel's festival is a serious week in the Irish racing calendar, the kind of place where there's a real crowd and real atmosphere, so winning there is no small thing. The trouble is that was nearly 20 months ago now, and the six races since have brought a second place and then a run of mid-field finishes, including an eighth and a seventh. The recent form line reads –-7-4-3-8-2, and while that third and second show the ability is still there, the wins have dried up.

The partnership with jockey Keith Donoghue is the most encouraging subplot here. In 8 races together they've landed both of One Night Standard's career wins — a win rate of 25%, or 1 in every 4 rides. For context, that's a dramatically better ratio than the horse's overall record suggests. When Donoghue is in the saddle, something clicks. Whether that's his style suiting the horse or simply a matter of timing, the numbers make a compelling case that this combination is worth watching whenever they line up together.

Trainer Conor O'Dwyer operates out of Friarstown in County Kildare and has sent out 4 winners already this season, so the yard is in decent shape. O'Dwyer knows this horse well at this point, and with One Night Standard having raced just yesterday and still active, there's clearly an appetite to find another winning opportunity. At seven, the window isn't unlimited — but with the right conditions and Donoghue back in the saddle, another day in the sun isn't out of the question.
