Trained by Brian Meehan at his yard in Manton, Wiltshire, Oceans Five is part of a team that has sent out 13 winners already this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses to win. The fact that this one hasn't managed it yet isn't down to any lack of quality around it — Meehan's yard is producing results. Oceans Five just hasn't clicked yet. That ninth-place finish at the start of its recorded form, and another ninth most recently, are the low points — races where it simply didn't fire. But the two third-place finishes in between show there is ability here, even if it comes and goes.
What makes the next run interesting is that it raced just yesterday, so the yard — sorry, the team — are keeping it busy. Trainers don't run horses back quickly unless they believe the horse is in good enough shape to run well. Whether that confidence is rewarded with a first win remains to be seen, but Oceans Five is very much a horse in the middle of its story, not at the end of it.
