No Return

The highlight of the career so far came at The Curragh in April 2025, followed by a second win at Fairyhouse on 29 May 2025. Two winners' enclosures in the space of six weeks — that was a promising run of form. Since then, though, nothing. The last six races have produced a second place and five finishes in the mid-to-lower half of the field, including an eighth and a seventh. Something clicked briefly in the spring, and the team will be hoping to find that again.

The numbers around ground conditions are one of the more interesting threads in this profile. On normal ground, No Return has won 2 from 9 races — that is a win rate of 22%, or just over 1 in every 4 and a half races. That is a genuinely solid number, and it stands out sharply against what happens in other conditions. When the ground changes, so does the horse. Keep that in mind.

Regular partner Ronan Whelan has ridden No Return in five of its races and is yet to win on the horse, though the pair haven't had long to build on that record. Whether a change in the saddle might unlock something different is a question worth asking, particularly given the recent string of near-misses and quiet runs.

The whole operation is based at Charlie Johnston's yard at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, and this is one of the most productive training operations in Britain right now — 128 winners already this season is a remarkable number, and it speaks to a team that knows how to get horses fit, sharp, and ready to win. No Return has been racing as recently as yesterday, so it is clearly in good health and active. The platform is there. The ability has shown itself before. The question now is simply whether the pieces can come together again.
