Trained by Henry Daly out of his yard in Ludlow, Shropshire, Newbridge arrives with a team already in good form behind them. Daly's operation has sent out 17 winners so far this season, which tells you this isn't a yard that stumbles into results — they tend to have their horses ready when they turn up. A debut win, rather than a gentle introduction, suggests Newbridge was sent to Newton Abbot to do a job, and did it.

With just one race on the clock, there isn't much history to pick through — but sometimes that's the most intriguing kind of horse. Everything is still ahead of them, and the only evidence so far points in exactly the right direction.
