Four wins from 20 races at that level (20%) is a solid return, and it suggests he belongs there rather than scraping through on luck. His most productive partnership has been with jockey Sean Quinlan, who has ridden him to 5 of his 6 career wins from 23 races together — a win rate of 22%, or roughly 1 in every 4-and-a-half rides. That's a meaningful connection between horse and rider.

What makes Ned Tanner especially interesting is his record at Ayr. Two wins from just 6 races there makes it a genuine stronghold — and his most recent victory came at Ayr on 8 March 2025, just fourteen months ago. Course specialists are real in horse racing; something about the track, the bends, the ground, or simply the atmosphere seems to suit certain horses, and Ayr clearly suits this one.

He hasn't won in his last 6 races, but the trainer is not hitting the panic button. After a wind operation in September, Ned Tanner missed some work, and his latest run at Kelso — just yesterday — saw him tire in the closing stages of a very strongly run race. The trainer's view is straightforward: the horse travelled well for most of it and simply ran out of fuel late on. The handicapper has since dropped him to a rating of 114, and crucially, he has won off a higher mark than that before. In other words, the weight he carries is now lighter than when he last won — which is exactly the kind of situation that makes punters start paying attention.

A decade into his career, Ned Tanner is apparently not done yet. His trainer believes he can still compete at a higher level, and given what Ayr does for him, a return there might be the moment to watch.
