Native Warrior

What makes Native Warrior interesting is his clarity of preference. He absolutely loves wet, muddy ground: he has won 2 of his 3 races on those surfaces, a 67 percent win rate that shows this is not accident but his preferred playing field. Equally, he has a natural distance sweet spot between seven furlongs and a mile, where he has won 4 of 9 races (44 percent). Ascot is his track: he has visited four times and won twice, proof that he performs well on the big stage in top-class races. In October and September 2025, he won back-to-back Class 2 races there, and in June 2026 he won at Leopardstown—two months ago now—showing he is still actively competitive at the highest level he contests.

The horse is trained by K R Burke at Coverham in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out 145 winners already this season. Burke has clearly found something in Native Warrior: his most regular rider, James Doyle, has won 2 of 5 races aboard him (40 percent), a partnership that works. Burke himself has noted that the horse "looks exceptional" and loves heavy ground above all else—the key to unlocking his best performances. At five years old, Native Warrior is at an age where he knows his job and executes it well when everything aligns: wet ground, the right trip, a sympathetic jockey, and a course that suits him.
