The most recent run came just yesterday, and the last six results tell a story of inconsistency that will be familiar to anyone following this horse. A second place and a third place are tucked in among some disappointing efforts, including a couple of finishes deep in the field. That kind of up-and-down form can be frustrating to follow, but it also suggests Mythical Isle is capable of better — the question is what brings out that better version.
Paddy Bradley has been the regular rider, partnering the horse in five of its races together without a win to show for it. That said, a jockey does not keep getting the ride if the trainer has lost all faith, and Patrick Morris, based at Prescott in Merseyside, is clearly still engaged with the project. Morris has sent out 22 winners from his yard this season, which is a decent tally and shows this is an operation that knows how to get horses to win. The fact that Mythical Isle has not yet joined that list says more about the challenge of finding the right opportunity than about the quality of the team behind it.
Most of Mythical Isle's races have come at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing — the kind of races where horses are learning their trade or finding their level. Five races at that grade without a win is a slightly uncomfortable statistic, but placing in that company at least confirms the horse belongs there and is not simply outclassed. For now, Mythical Isle is one of those horses that keeps giving its supporters just enough hope to keep watching.
