The recent form string tells a similar story: an eighth, a third, and a sixth in its last three completed races, with a couple of non-completions thrown in. Nothing there screams imminent winner, though the third place at least suggests the horse can occasionally put a decent effort together when things go right.

My Lovely Horse runs at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle of the British racing ladder — not the very bottom, but not the sharp end either. At that level, winning ought to be achievable for a horse good enough to belong there, yet the record reads zero wins from four attempts at that grade. Trainer David Bridgwater, based at Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire, has sent out five winners this season from his yard, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses to the winner's enclosure. Whether My Lovely Horse can be one of them remains the open question. The horse raced just yesterday and is clearly in active work, so Bridgwater has not given up on finding the right opportunity. Sometimes it just takes that one day when everything clicks — the question is whether that day is coming.
