My Ambition

The level My Ambition typically competes at — Class 6, the entry level of the sport — tells you this isn't a horse built for the big occasions. But within that world, it has been a reliable performer, winning 4 of its 18 races at that level, a win rate of around 1 in 4 or 5. That's actually a decent return for a horse racing regularly at the bottom rung, where the competition is unpredictable and fields can be large. The career began with a first win at Newbury back in June 2022, which was a promising start, and the horse has kept finding the winner's enclosure ever since, most recently at Lingfield Park in September 2025.

Ground conditions appear to matter. My Ambition has won 2 from 8 on normal ground (25%) and 2 from 7 on fast, dry ground (29%) — those are its two best surfaces, and the numbers are close enough to suggest the horse handles a range of conditions well, as long as the track isn't wet or heavy underfoot. That versatility is genuinely useful for a horse racing this frequently.

The recent form makes for interesting reading: the last six results read 9-3-2-11-3-1, which is the profile of a horse that runs inconsistently but is not out of ideas. A bad run, a couple of near-misses, and then a win — it's a pattern that suggests My Ambition is competitive when the conditions suit, rather than a horse that shows up and goes through the motions. Racing just one day ago, it is clearly still very much in active training under Denis Coakley at West Ilsley, a yard that has sent out 10 winners this season and is clearly in decent form.

One note of intrigue: regular jockey George Bass has yet to get a winner out of the horse across 7 rides together. That's not unusual — plenty of partnerships take time to click, or simply never do — but it's a stat worth watching as the season continues.
