The recent form tells an interesting story. A ninth-place finish a little further back suggested a rough patch, but the horse has bounced back with a pair of third-place finishes and a couple of fourths, including a run just yesterday. That kind of quick turnaround shows the horse is in regular work and its trainer is confident enough to keep putting it out there — which usually means they believe better days are coming.
That trainer is Anthony Mullins, based at Gowran in Co Kilkenny. The yard has sent out nine winners already this season, so it is clearly a yard in decent form. When a stable is winning regularly, the horses around them tend to benefit from the same preparation and routine — and a horse that keeps placing, as Muted Melody does, is often just one decent opportunity away from breaking through. Whether that first win arrives soon remains to be seen, but with a race just yesterday the horse is fit, active, and clearly still in the plans.
