Muker

The partnership with jockey Alex Jary has been his most productive. The two have won five times from 27 races together — a 19 percent success rate — considerably better than his overall win rate. That chemistry matters. But the horse has become harder to crack recently. His last win came at Doncaster on 4 July 2025, more than a year ago. His last six races have yielded nothing: eighth, eleventh, tenth, fourth, sixth, and seventeenth. That final run, at Southwell just over a week ago, was telling. He got overexcited before the start, anticipated the break and was left behind, a reminder that Muker is, as his trainer Nigel Tinkler puts it, "unpredictable" — talented but quirky.

Redcar is his happy hunting ground: two wins from six races there show he has found a course that suits him. On the rare occasions when everything aligns — normal ground, the right pace, a jockey he trusts — Muker delivers genuine effort. When post-race jockeys praise his try and his willingness, you sense they mean it. But he is not a horse for the all-weather, and Tinkler has made the sensible call to give him a break and return him next year, hopefully to conditions where his natural speed can flourish.
