The real puzzle is his record at Class 5 level—the lower rungs of the racing ladder, where you'd expect a horse with his bare record to pick up at least a win or two. He's had four tries at that grade and drawn a blank each time. It's the kind of pattern that makes trainers Richard and Peter Fahey, who run a yard at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire, study the form and wonder where the problem lies. The Faheys are having a solid season with 23 winners to their name, so they know how to get horses over the line; Mr Moonshine just hasn't been the one to do it for them. He's still active and racing regularly, so there's time yet. But the more a horse gets the frame without winning, the harder that first success can become.
