That team is trained by Tony Carroll, based in Cropthorne in Worcestershire. Most horses never win at the same course twice in their career. The surface, the shape of the track, something about Bath suits Moon Over The Sea in a way that cannot be explained away as luck.

Regular jockey Jack Doughty has only found the winner's enclosure together once from 15 rides, roughly 1 in 15, so there is clearly a gap between the horse's ability and what the partnership has managed to unlock. Whether that changes in the weeks ahead, with the horse in this sort of form, is one of the more interesting questions of the moment.
