That is decent enough on its own, but the recent form sharpens the picture considerably. In its last six races the sequence reads first, first, second, second, then a poor ninth, then a blank before that — so strip away that blip and what you have is a horse that has found a real level and is competing consistently near the front of its races. Two wins from its last six outings is the kind of return that suggests something has clicked.

Where Monvoe really comes alive is at distances between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs. At that range it has won 2 of just 4 races — that is a 50% win rate, which in racing terms is extraordinary. Finding the right trip for a horse can be the difference between a useful animal and a frustrating one, and Monvoe's team appear to have cracked that particular code. Both career wins have come at that distance, which is not a coincidence.

Behind the horse is trainer R P Cody, operating out of Dunnamaggin in County Kilkenny. It is a small yard that has already sent out 6 winners this season, which speaks to an operation that punches with purpose. Cody has clearly had Monvoe pointed in the right direction, and with the horse still only three — still developing, still learning — there is every reason to think the best may not yet have been seen. Leopardstown is one of Ireland's premier tracks, and winning there this week is not nothing. It is the kind of result that opens doors to better races.
